I make a point not to post on politics, but my friend provided a rare perspective that I found hilarious and couldn’t help but share. Enjoy the read:
COFFEE THOUGHTS BY AUTHOR LORENA PETER
Politics From A Mystery Author’s Perspective: Although we are discouraged from discussing politics in polite company, I still think of things to say. In fact, I frequently wonder what genre book I would write if I were to write a true crime fiction book about this election. Would I write fantasy, comedy, steamy love story, alternative history, spy story, or apocalyptic horror?
Depending upon your leaning, any of these (and others) would fit. After all, we writers create our own spins on the basic elements of the story. Truth rarely entertains enough to grab the readers’ attention. I often wonder if that is true in the arena of politics, too!
When I worked in political campaigns, I met real people who could fit into any of these genres. They are an interesting lot, both the candidates themselves and the hangers-on!
My funniest encounter was in the ladies’ room where two sweet young things were discussing their lovers. “I think about polishing my nails while he’s doing it. What else do I have to think about?” Her friend shrugged knowingly. They added more color to their lips and left.
I later saw them with their older, married lovers who were fawning over them like ardent schoolboys. The scene made me smile as I joined my handsome beau! His wife asked me what was so funny. I showed her my perfectly manicured nails. “Just a story about doing nails.” She looked confused. I shake my head in wonder at the foibles of humans!!
